Our COVID-19 ap360 air purifier received a nomination for a Cambridge Independent Award for Innovation.

We are proud to announce that we have been selected as a finalist for the Award for Innovation at this year’s Cambridge Independent’s Science and Technology Awards. We’ve been nominated for our innovation and design for the ap360 air purifier device.

In 2020, we decided to develop a well-thought-through device that would make the air safer and provide a safe environment for our staff, so that they felt comfortable returning to the office. We created an air purifier using HEPA-13 filtration and UV-C light, technology which is already well-established and extremely effective at removing pathogens from the air.

One of the major downsides of this existing technology is that it can cause skin cancer and cataracts at the doses needed to kill bacteria and viruses and most purifiers on the market are only able to be utilized when the room is empty. This posed an engineering challenge as we wanted a device that could be in the same room whilst people worked but also provided the correct light doses to be effective. Our experienced and expert engineers managed to overcome this challenge by crunching the numbers on optimal airflow, bulb strength, and chamber size ensuring the UV-C blub is fully enclosed to avoid light leakage from the device. Our team broke records to produce a prototype within weeks and a production-ready unit soon after. The devices have now been keeping our colleagues safe for over 2 years, with no work-related transmission recorded during that time.
